The genus Datonglong dates to 2016, the year S. C. Xu and colleagues described it. The name means “datong dragon.”
It lived in the Late Cretaceous (Cenomanian–Campanian), roughly 100.5 to 72.2 million years ago. Finds come from China, including the Huiquanpu Formation. It was a herbivore and could move on two or four legs.
Published estimates put Datonglong at a length near 9.3 m.
