Oblitosaurus was formally named in 2023 by S. Sánchez-Fenollosa and colleagues. The name means “forgotten lizard.”
Fossils referred to Oblitosaurus date to the Late Jurassic (Kimmeridgian · Tithonian), roughly 154.8 to 143.1 million years ago. Finds come from Spain, including the Villar del Arzobispo Formation. It was a herbivore and walked on two legs.
Published estimates put Oblitosaurus at a length near 6–7 m.
