In 2010, S. D. Sampson and colleagues published the name Kosmoceratops. The name means “ornate horned face.”
Fossils referred to Kosmoceratops date to the Late Cretaceous (Campanian), roughly 83.6 to 72.2 million years ago. Finds come from the United States, including the Kaiparowits Formation. It was a herbivore and walked on four legs.
Published estimates put Kosmoceratops at a length near 4.5 m, hips about 1.8 m high, and a body mass around 1.2 tonnes.
