The story in short

It lived in the Early Cretaceous (Barremian · Aptian), roughly 125.8 to 113.2 million years ago. Finds come from China, including the Jiufotang Formation. It was a herbivore and walked on two legs.
Published estimates put Jeholornis at a body mass around 1 kg. Those figures are drawn from Jeholornis curvipes rather than the type species alone.
On the family tree it sits in Avialae, among the theropod dinosaurs.
