In 1937, A. N. Riabinin published the name Jaxartosaurus. The name means “jaxartes lizard.”
Fossils referred to Jaxartosaurus date to the Late Cretaceous (Coniacian · Santonian), roughly 89.8 to 83.6 million years ago. Finds come from Kazakhstan, including the Syuksyuk Formation. It was a herbivore and could move on two or four legs.
Published estimates put Jaxartosaurus at a length near 9 m.
