The genus Eotriceratops dates to 2007, the year X. C. Wu and colleagues described it.

Fossils referred to Eotriceratops date to the Late Cretaceous (Maastrichtian), roughly 72.2 to 66 million years ago. Finds come from Canada, including the Horseshoe Canyon Formation. It was a herbivore and walked on four legs.

Published estimates put Eotriceratops at a length near 8.5–9 m and a body mass around 11 tonnes.

On the family tree it sits in Chasmosaurinae, among the horned dinosaurs.
