The story in short

In 2010, M. A. Loewen and colleagues published the name Coahuilaceratops. The name means “horned face from Coahuila.”

It lived in the Late Cretaceous (Maastrichtian), roughly 72.2 to 66 million years ago. Finds come from Mexico, including the Cerro del Pueblo Formation. It was a herbivore and walked on four legs.

Published estimates put Coahuilaceratops at a length near 4–6.7 m, hips about 1.8–2.1 m high, and a body mass around 1–5 tonnes.

On the family tree it sits in Chasmosaurinae, among the horned dinosaurs.
