The story in short
In 2013, W. H. Wu and colleagues published the name Xinjiangtitan. The name means “xinjiang titan.”
Fossils referred to Xinjiangtitan date to the Middle Jurassic (Callovian), roughly 165.3 to 161.5 million years ago. Finds come from China, including the Qiketai Formation. It was a herbivore and walked on four legs.
Published estimates put Xinjiangtitan at a length near 30–32 m and a body mass around 40 tonnes.
On the family tree it sits in Mamenchisauridae, among the sauropod dinosaurs.
