The story in short
In 2025, X. Wei and colleagues published the name Tongnanlong. The name means “tongnan District dragon.”
It lived in the Late Jurassic, within an age that is only broadly constrained. Finds come from China, including the Suining Formation. It was a herbivore and walked on four legs.
Published estimates put Tongnanlong at a length near 25–26 m.
On the family tree it sits in Mamenchisauridae, among the sauropod dinosaurs.
