Spectrovenator was formally named in 2020 by H. Zaher and colleagues. The name means “ghost hunter.”
It lived in the Early Cretaceous (Aptian), roughly 121.4 to 113.2 million years ago. Finds come from Brazil, including the Quiricó Formation. It was a carnivore and walked on two legs.
Published estimates put Spectrovenator at a length near 1.4–2.2 m, hips about 0.6 m high, and a body mass around 50 kg.
