The story in short
In 1996, X. Xue and colleagues published the name Shanyangosaurus. The name means “shanyang lizard.”
It lived in the Late Cretaceous, within an age that is only broadly constrained. Finds come from China, including the Shanyang Formation. It was a carnivore and walked on two legs.
Published estimates put Shanyangosaurus at a length near 1.6 m.
On the family tree it sits in Avetheropoda, among the theropod dinosaurs.
