In 2024, E. Isasmendi and colleagues published the name Riojavenatrix. The name means “la Rioja huntress.”

Fossils referred to Riojavenatrix date to the Early Cretaceous (Aptian), roughly 121.4 to 113.2 million years ago. Finds come from Spain. It was a carnivore and walked on two legs.

Published estimates put Riojavenatrix at a length near 10 m.
