Rhomaleopakhus was formally named in 2021 by P. Upchurch and colleagues. The name means “strong forearm.”

It lived in the Late Jurassic (Kimmeridgian · Tithonian), roughly 154.8 to 143.1 million years ago. Finds come from China, including the Kalazha Formation. It was a herbivore and walked on four legs.

Published estimates put Rhomaleopakhus at a length near 20 m, hips about 3.6 m high, and a body mass around 18 tonnes.

On the family tree it sits in Mamenchisauridae, among the sauropod dinosaurs.
