In 2022, A. F. Rincón and colleagues published the name Perijasaurus. The name means “perija lizard.”

Fossils referred to Perijasaurus date to the Early Jurassic · Middle Jurassic (Toarcian · Aalenian), roughly 184.2 to 170.9 million years ago. Finds come from CO, including the La Quinta Formation. It was a herbivore and walked on four legs.

Published estimates put Perijasaurus at a length near 13 m, hips about 2.5 m high, and a body mass around 6 tonnes.

On the family tree it sits in Eusauropoda, among the sauropod dinosaurs.
