The story in short

In 2013, R. A. Coria and colleagues published the name Overosaurus. The name means “overo lizard.”

Fossils referred to Overosaurus date to the Late Cretaceous (Santonian), roughly 85.7 to 83.6 million years ago. Finds come from Argentina, including the Bajo de la Carpa Formation. It was a herbivore and walked on four legs.

Published estimates put Overosaurus at a length near 10 m, hips about 1.6 m high, and a body mass around 1.8 tonnes.

On the family tree it sits in Aeolosaurini, among the sauropod dinosaurs.
