The story in short

Mnyamawamtuka was formally named in 2019 by E. Gorscak and P. M. O'Connor. The name means “beast of the Mtuka river drainage.”

It lived in the Early Cretaceous · Late Cretaceous (Aptian · Albian · Cenomanian), roughly 121.4 to 93.9 million years ago. Finds come from Tanzania, including the Galula Formation. It was a herbivore and walked on four legs.

Published estimates put Mnyamawamtuka at a length near 7.6 m and a body mass around 1.5 tonnes.

On the family tree it sits in Lithostrotia, among the sauropod dinosaurs.
