The story in short

In 2024, Q. N. Zhang and colleagues published the name Lishulong. The name means “chestnut tree.”

It lived in the Early Jurassic (Hettangian · Sinemurian), roughly 201.4 to 192.9 million years ago. Finds come from China, including the Lufeng Formation. It was a herbivore and could move on two or four legs.

Published estimates put Lishulong at a length near 13 m, hips about 2.3 m high, and a body mass around 2.9 tonnes.

On the family tree it sits in Sauropodiformes, among the early long-necked dinosaurs.
