The story in short

Leinkupal was formally named in 2014 by P. A. Gallina and colleagues. The name means “vanishing family.”

It lived in the Early Cretaceous (Valanginian), roughly 137.1 to 132.6 million years ago. Finds come from Argentina, including the Bajada Colorada Formation. It was a herbivore and walked on four legs.

Published estimates put Leinkupal at a length near 9 m and hips about 1.6 m high.

On the family tree it sits in Diplodocinae, among the sauropod dinosaurs.
