The story in short

Kunbarrasaurus was formally named in 2015 by L. G. Leahey and colleagues. The name means “shield lizard.”

It lived in the Early Cretaceous (Albian), roughly 113.2 to 100.5 million years ago. Finds come from Australia, including the Allaru Mudstone Formation. It was a herbivore and walked on four legs.

Published estimates put Kunbarrasaurus at a length near 2.5–3.5 m, hips about 0.6 m high, and a body mass around 150 kg.

On the family tree it sits in Parankylosauria, among the armored dinosaurs.
