Joaquinraptor was formally named in 2025 by L. M. Ibiricu and colleagues. The name means “joaquín thief.”
It lived in the Late Cretaceous (Maastrichtian), roughly 72.2 to 66 million years ago. Finds come from Argentina, including the Lago Colhué Huapi Formation. It was a carnivore and walked on two legs.
Published estimates put Joaquinraptor at a length near 7 m and a body mass around 1 tonnes.
