Fossils referred to Huehuecanauhtlus date to the Late Cretaceous (Santonian), roughly 85.7 to 83.6 million years ago. Finds come from Mexico, including the Cutzamala Formation. It was a herbivore and could move on two or four legs.

Published estimates put Huehuecanauhtlus at a length near 6 m and a body mass around 1–1.4 tonnes.
