Hagryphus was formally named in 2005 by L. E. Zanno and S. D. Sampson.
It lived in the Late Cretaceous (Campanian), roughly 83.6 to 72.2 million years ago. Finds come from the United States, including the Kaiparowits Formation. It was an omnivore and walked on two legs.
Published estimates put Hagryphus at a length near 2.4–3 m, hips about 1.1 m high, and a body mass around 50 kg.
