Apatoraptor was formally named in 2016 by G. F. Funston and P. J. Currie. The name means “deceptive thief.”
It lived in the Late Cretaceous (Maastrichtian), roughly 72.2 to 66 million years ago. Finds come from Canada, including the Horseshoe Canyon Formation. It was an omnivore and walked on two legs.
Published estimates put Apatoraptor at a length near 2.5 m, hips about 1.1 m high, and a body mass around 50 kg.
