The story in short
The genus Gnathovorax dates to 2019, the year C. Pacheco and colleagues described it. The name means “devouring jaw.”
It lived in the Late Triassic (Carnian), roughly 237 to 227.3 million years ago. Finds come from Brazil, including the Santa Maria Formation. It was a carnivore and walked on two legs.
The fossils of Gnathovorax are too incomplete for a responsible length, hip height, or weight, so those fields are left blank on purpose.
On the family tree it sits in Herrerasauridae, among the earliest dinosaurs.
