The story in short
In 2014, F. Han and colleagues published the name Chuanqilong. The name means “legendary dragon.”
It lived in the Early Cretaceous (Aptian), roughly 121.4 to 113.2 million years ago. Finds come from China, including the Jiufotang Formation. It was a herbivore and walked on four legs.
Published estimates put Chuanqilong at a length near 4.5 m, hips about 0.9 m high, and a body mass around 1 tonnes.
On the family tree it sits in Ankylosauridae, among the armored dinosaurs.
