The story in short
Choconsaurus was formally named in 2018 by E. Simón and colleagues. The name means “el Chocón lizard.”
It lived in the Late Cretaceous (Cenomanian), roughly 100.5 to 93.9 million years ago. Finds come from Argentina, including the Huincul Formation. It was a herbivore and walked on four legs.
Published estimates put Choconsaurus at a length near 21 m, hips about 3.1 m high, and a body mass around 18 tonnes.
