Carcharodontosaurus was formally named in 1931 by E. Stromer.
Fossils referred to Carcharodontosaurus date to the Late Cretaceous (Cenomanian), roughly 100.5 to 93.9 million years ago. Finds come from Morocco and Niger, including the Douira Formation. It was a carnivore and walked on two legs.
Published estimates put Carcharodontosaurus at a length near 10–12.5 m, hips about 2.9 m high, and a body mass around 4–7 tonnes.

This entry is the whole genus. The type species is Carcharodontosaurus saharicus. Other named species include Carcharodontosaurus iguidensis.
