The story in short

Bravasaurus was formally named in 2020 by E. M. Hechenleitner and colleagues. The name means “laguna Brava lizard.”

It lived in the Late Cretaceous (Campanian · Maastrichtian), roughly 83.6 to 66 million years ago. Finds come from Argentina, including the Ciénaga del Río Huaco Formation. It was a herbivore and walked on four legs.

Published estimates put Bravasaurus at a length near 7 m, hips about 1.5 m high, and a body mass around 2.9 tonnes.

On the family tree it sits in Aeolosaurini, among the sauropod dinosaurs.
