The genus Barsboldia dates to 1981, the year T. Maryańska and H. Osmólska described it. The name means “of Barsbold.”
It lived in the Late Cretaceous (Maastrichtian), roughly 72.2 to 66 million years ago. Finds come from Mongolia, including the Nemegt Formation. It was a herbivore and could move on two or four legs.
