It lived in the Late Cretaceous (Turonian–Campanian), roughly 93.9 to 72.2 million years ago. Finds come from China, including the Xiaguan Formation. It was a herbivore and walked on four legs.

Published estimates put Baotianmansaurus at a length near 20–22.5 m and a body mass around 15–21 tonnes.
