The genus Bagualosaurus dates to 2018, the year F. A. Pretto and colleagues described it. The name means “strongly built fellow.”
Fossils referred to Bagualosaurus date to the Late Triassic (Carnian), roughly 237 to 227.3 million years ago. Finds come from Brazil, including the Santa Maria Formation. It was a herbivore and walked on two legs.
Published estimates put Bagualosaurus at a length near 2.2 m, hips about 0.7 m high, and a body mass around 6 kg.
