Aragosaurus was formally named in 1987 by J. L. Sanz and colleagues. The name means “aragon lizard.”
It lived in the Late Jurassic · Early Cretaceous (Tithonian · Berriasian), roughly 149.2 to 137.1 million years ago. Finds come from Spain, including the Villar del Arzobispo Formation. It was a herbivore and walked on four legs.
Published estimates put Aragosaurus at a length near 18 m and a body mass around 25 tonnes.
