The story in short

In 1870, E. Bunzel published the name Struthiosaurus. The name means “ostrich lizard.”

It lived in the Late Cretaceous (Campanian · Maastrichtian), roughly 83.6 to 66 million years ago. Finds come from AT, Romania, and France, including the Grünbach Formation. It was a herbivore and walked on four legs.

Published estimates put Struthiosaurus at a length near 2–3 m, hips about 0.7 m high, and a body mass around 300–400 kg.

On the family tree it sits in Nodosauridae, among the armored dinosaurs.

This entry is the whole genus. The type species is Struthiosaurus austriacus. Other named species include Struthiosaurus transylvanicus and Struthiosaurus languedocensis.
