Normanniasaurus was formally named in 2013 by J. Le Loeuff and colleagues. The name means “normandy lizard.”
Fossils referred to Normanniasaurus date to the Early Cretaceous (Albian), roughly 113.2 to 100.5 million years ago. Finds come from France, including the Poudingue Ferrugineux Formation. It was a herbivore and walked on four legs.
Published estimates put Normanniasaurus at a length near 12 m.
