Nemegtomaia was formally named in 2005 by J. Lü and colleagues. The name means “good mother.”
It lived in the Late Cretaceous (Campanian · Maastrichtian), roughly 83.6 to 66 million years ago. Finds come from Mongolia, including the Nemegt Formation. It was an omnivore and walked on two legs.
Published estimates put Nemegtomaia at a length near 2 m, hips about 0.7 m high, and a body mass around 40 kg.
