The story in short
The genus Nanotyrannus dates to 1988, the year R. T. Bakker and colleagues described it.
Fossils referred to Nanotyrannus date to the Late Cretaceous (Maastrichtian), roughly 72.2 to 66 million years ago. Finds come from the United States, including the Hell Creek Formation. It was a carnivore and walked on two legs.
The fossils of Nanotyrannus are too incomplete for a responsible length, hip height, or weight, so those fields are left blank on purpose.
On the family tree it sits in Eutyrannosauria, among the theropod dinosaurs.
This entry is the whole genus. The type species is Nanotyrannus lancensis. Other named species include Nanotyrannus lethaeus.
