Lurdusaurus was formally named in 1999 by P. Taquet and D. A. Russell.
It lived in the Early Cretaceous (Albian), roughly 113.2 to 100.5 million years ago. Finds come from Niger, including the Elrhaz Formation. It was a herbivore and walked on two legs.
Published estimates put Lurdusaurus at a length near 7–9 m, hips about 2 m high, and a body mass around 5.5 tonnes.
