In 1998, P. Dantas and colleagues published the name Lourinhasaurus. The name means “lizard from Lourinhã.”
It lived in the Late Jurassic (Kimmeridgian · Tithonian), roughly 154.8 to 143.1 million years ago. Finds come from Portugal, including the Farta Pão Formation. It was a herbivore and walked on four legs.
Published estimates put Lourinhasaurus at a length near 18 m, hips about 4 m high, and a body mass around 5 tonnes.
