The story in short
The genus Lingwulong dates to 2018, the year X. Xu and colleagues described it. The name means “lingwu dragon.”
Fossils referred to Lingwulong date to the Middle Jurassic (Bathonian · Callovian), roughly 168.2 to 161.5 million years ago. Finds come from China, including the Zhiluo Formation. It was a herbivore and walked on four legs.
Published estimates put Lingwulong at a length near 17 m, hips about 3.7 m high, and a body mass around 8 tonnes.
On the family tree it sits in Dicraeosauridae, among the sauropod dinosaurs.
