The story in short

In 2012, A. Prieto-Márquez and C. I. Serrano-Brañas published the name Latirhinus. The name means “broad nose.”

It lived in the Late Cretaceous (Campanian), roughly 83.6 to 72.2 million years ago. Finds come from Mexico, including the Cerro del Pueblo Formation. It was a herbivore and could move on two or four legs.

Published estimates put Latirhinus at a length near 8.7 m, hips about 2.2 m high, and a body mass around 3.8 tonnes.

On the family tree it sits in Lambeosaurinae, among the ornithopod dinosaurs.
