The story in short

Khankhuuluu was formally named in 2025 by J. T. Voris and colleagues. The name means “dragon prince.”

It lived in the Late Cretaceous (Turonian · Coniacian · Santonian), roughly 93.9 to 83.6 million years ago. Finds come from Mongolia, including the Bayanshiree Formation. It was a carnivore and walked on two legs.

Published estimates put Khankhuuluu at a length near 4 m, hips about 2 m high, and a body mass around 750 kg.

On the family tree it sits in Tyrannosauroidea, among the theropod dinosaurs.
