The story in short

Kamuysaurus was formally named in 2019 by Y. Kobayashi and colleagues.

Fossils referred to Kamuysaurus date to the Late Cretaceous (Maastrichtian), roughly 72.2 to 66 million years ago. Finds come from Japan, including the Hakobuchi Formation. It was a herbivore and could move on two or four legs.

Published estimates put Kamuysaurus at a length near 8 m and a body mass around 4–5.3 tonnes.

On the family tree it sits in Saurolophinae, among the ornithopod dinosaurs.
