The genus Jingshanosaurus dates to 1995, the year Y. Zhang and Z. Yang described it. The name means “jingshan lizard.”
Fossils referred to Jingshanosaurus date to the Early Jurassic (Hettangian), roughly 201.4 to 199.5 million years ago. Finds come from China, including the Lufeng Formation. It was a herbivore and could move on two or four legs.
Published estimates put Jingshanosaurus at a length near 5 m, hips about 2.3 m high, and a body mass around 1.6 tonnes.
