The story in short

Jianchangosaurus was formally named in 2013 by H. Pu and colleagues. The name means “lizard from Jianchang County.”

It lived in the Early Cretaceous (Barremian), roughly 125.8 to 121.4 million years ago. Finds come from China, including the Yixian Formation. It was a herbivore and walked on two legs.

Published estimates put Jianchangosaurus at a length near 2 m, hips about 1 m high, and a body mass around 20–26 kg.

On the family tree it sits in Therizinosauria, among the theropod dinosaurs.
