In 2021, S. Rozadilla and colleagues published the name Huallasaurus.

Fossils referred to Huallasaurus date to the Late Cretaceous (Campanian · Maastrichtian), roughly 83.6 to 66 million years ago. Finds come from Argentina, including the Los Alamitos Formation. It was a herbivore and could move on two or four legs.

Published estimates put Huallasaurus at a length near 8.7 m.

On the family tree it sits in Saurolophinae, among the ornithopod dinosaurs.
