In 2006, X. Xu and colleagues published the name Guanlong. The name means “crown dragon.”
It lived in the Middle Jurassic · Late Jurassic (Callovian · Oxfordian), roughly 165.3 to 154.8 million years ago. Finds come from China, including the Shishugou Formation. It was a carnivore and walked on two legs.
Published estimates put Guanlong at a length near 3–3.5 m and a body mass around 125 kg.
