In 2004, J. O. Calvo and colleagues published the name Ekrixinatosaurus. The name means “explosion-born reptile.”
It lived in the Late Cretaceous (Cenomanian), roughly 100.5 to 93.9 million years ago. Finds come from Argentina, including the Candeleros Formation. It was a carnivore and walked on two legs.
Published estimates put Ekrixinatosaurus at a length near 6.5–11 m and a body mass around 800 kg.
