Duriatitan was formally named in 2010 by P. M. Barrett and colleagues. The name means “giant from Dorset.”

It lived in the Late Jurassic (Kimmeridgian), roughly 154.8 to 149.2 million years ago. Finds come from the United Kingdom, including the Kimmeridge Clay Formation. It was a herbivore and walked on four legs.

Published estimates put Duriatitan at a length near 25 m, hips about 3 m high, and a body mass around 10 tonnes.
