The story in short
Datai was formally named in 2024 by L. Xing and colleagues. The name means “to understand.”
It lived in the Late Cretaceous (Turonian), roughly 93.9 to 89.8 million years ago. Finds come from China, including the Zhoutian Formation. It was a herbivore and walked on four legs.
The fossils of Datai are too incomplete for a responsible length, hip height, or weight, so those fields are left blank on purpose.
On the family tree it sits in Ankylosaurinae, among the armored dinosaurs.
