Daemonosaurus was formally named in 2011 by H. D. Sues and colleagues. The name means “demon lizard.”
Fossils referred to Daemonosaurus date to the Late Triassic (Rhaetian), roughly 205.7 to 201.4 million years ago. Finds come from the United States, including the Chinle Formation. It was a carnivore and walked on two legs.
Published estimates put Daemonosaurus at a length near 1.5–2.2 m, hips about 0.4 m high, and a body mass around 9–23 kg.
